1 WELCOME:
A rather tentative and soggy Summer seems to have finally arrived in our corner of Ontario, in no way reflected in this extraordinary newsletter which brings you news of the greatest number of "new" books we have ever released in a single month!

All of you who kept your patience with us and have been loyally waiting for us to bring on some new British records are finally due for your just rewards and will find over 100 new British titles to check through.

Nor is the deluge over yet.  We have so much new material that it's "roll out" is going on till well into the next month.  And we've just been told that the busy people down under are just about ready to send us another super large batch of new stuff.

Remember this Newsletter is published for you so if you think we’re missing something important drop me a line to Malcolm@ArchiveCDBooks.ca.

Newsletters work best when they get a good circulation. We’re doing our best to let people know about it but you could help us along by mentioning it to your genealogy buddies and generally spreading the word. Feel free to pass this copy along, but only in its complete form please.

All newsletter administration messages should be e-mailed to Books@ArchiveCDBooks.ca

--------------------------
To find a book on CD on our web site http://www.archivecdbooks.ca take a note of the catalogue number - or use the “copy” function - go to the web site, click on the “Search Page” link and enter, or “paste,” the number into the “Product Number” box. Hit “Search” and then “More” and you will be in a position to reread the description or to place your order.
Alternatively you can browse through the catalogue using the drop down headings lists. We have tried to multi-list books where they correspond to more than one category but consider the possibility that the subject you are looking for may be under a related heading.

There is frequently more information about the books available on the web site than that which is included in the following descriptions. All prices in $Cdn.

3 NEW CANADIAN RELEASE
* Presbyterian Pioneer Missionaries
(in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.)
CA0239:  $13.00
This book was authored (although edited might be a more accurate description) by the Rev. Hugh McKellar, D.D. in 1924.  In his introduction the Rev. Hugh makes it clear that he was motivated to make a permanent record of the pioneer missionaries who helped to carry the Presbyterian ministries into the developing prairie and western provinces of Canada.  The Rev. Hugh does not lay any claim to the completeness of his record but to judge from the listing of ministers and missionaries sent into the western provinces included in the rear of the book it would appear to be quite exhaustive.

The reason I use the term "editor" rather than "author" is that many of the later biographies and reminiscences are attributed to other writers, either in answer to Rev. Hugh's inquiries, or in writing about the subjects for other purposes, i.e., church reports.  Many of the written reports are accompanied by photographs - or in a couple of instances - drawings - of the subjects, sometimes including their spouses and occasionally showing the buildings from which they conducted their ministry.

Clearly the primary reason for inclusion in this book is work done in the provinces from Manitoba westward but so many of these individuals had previously established ministries in the east and so the book also includes much of the personal history of the Presbyterian church personnel in Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
While the book is primarily about the lives of the missionaries their stories are inextricably bound up with the story of the development of the Canadian west so that the reader will find this is also a history of the settlement of western Canada starting with the idealistic settlement along the Red River, championed by Lord Selkirk - the source of so much political wrangling and violence.

A valuable resource both for its personal histories and as a guide to the early history of the Canadian west.  Fully computer searchable with searches speeded up by our use of FastFind technology.

4 COMING SOON:
We are still in the process of working our way through this rather difficult month which has had me "out of the office" for an extended period.  In fact I'm only back on a part time basis now because all of our beautifully laid plans came apart when my computer suddenly stopped working the day before I had to vacate my seat.  In fact this letter is coming to you from a borrowed laptop.  None of which is particularly relevant except that selecting a "next project" simply hasn't been the burning question to rise to the top of the priority heap.  So, next month's new title will be pot luck - even assuming we have one.

5.0 NEW RELEASES:
We have never had a month like this for New Releases. I mentioned last month that we had just completed an agreement with Anguline Research to offer their fine line of British topic CDs and this means there will be literally hundreds of new titles in our catalogue of which over 100 are announced here.  Our Australian partner gone into overdrive on his scanning, producing literally hundreds of great new titles and so has informed us he will shortly be sending us a whole new batch of titles.  Since we are still well short of announcing all of his previous batch of release we have also changed gear and are announcing 45 new Australian titles this month.  Finally our Irish partners surprised us with a new batch of CDs covering both Irish and British subjects.

So, for this issue of the newsletter I am changing our format to provide you with only a title, a catalogue number and a retail price.  Also they are listed sorted by their "Primary" area of interest.  Many, in fact virtually all, of our books fit into more then one of our catalogue categories and in our on-line catalogue you will frequently find the same title appearing in several categories.  On paper (and in the pseudo-paper of this newsletter) making these multiple entries is a lot more difficult and tends to become very repetitive, so when reading the following lists bear in mind that they are only listed under ONE of their possible categories and that you should have a look at the full description in our on-line catalogue if a title looks as if it might apply to the area of your interest as well.  You will also have to go to the catalogue to see the description as well.  Sorry to put you through this but it seemed preferable to having a mile long newsletter :-)

6 NEWS & GOSSIP:
If any of you have genealogy related questions of a general nature - or something specifically related to Archive CD Books - we'd be glad to publish your question in this newsletter to tap into the enormous fund of knowledge which I know is out there.

NEWS FOR BRITISH HERITAGE RESEARCHERS:
As you will have seen we are busy registering all the new "Anguline Research" titles in our catalogue ready for you to order them.  The registration is quite a long winded process, and we have to be extra careful not to make any mistakes. If we can stick to the current rate of release we will probably have them all available by the time we issue the next newsletter.

OGS SEMINAR AT OAKVILLE
It seems like an age ago now but in fact it was only a couple of weeks.  We very much enjoyed reviving old friendships and making new ones and we hope that all of you managed to find us out there by the Main Entrance.  (We also hope your feet are recovering! :-)  )  A number of you came with prepared shopping lists and while I think there was only one case where we didn't have a copy of the CD, could I just suggest you "tip us off" about titles you know you want so we can make sure we have a copy of the CD when you come to see us.  There's no obligation to buy and we do hate to disappoint.

WE GOOFED!:
A customers kindly pointed out to us that one of the maps in last months new release; A Collection of Maps from the Great War (WWI) era.
Product No. CA0347, was of sub-standard quality - and he was absolutely right!  We still don't know how the defective image got into the mastering area but it had no business being there.  We are working on reissuing the CD and will be sending out revised copies to everyone we know has purchased one ....
EXCEPT:  Would the two ladies who came to our table during the OGS at Oakville and bought that CD for cash please contact us so we can arrange to send them replacement copies.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
SPAM filters are becoming very aggressive and we are getting more and more subscriptions from addresses which subsequently reject our confirmation notices and newsletters.  If you hear of someone complaining that we ignored their subscription please tell them to check their rejected SPAM and to edit their SPAM filter to accept the ArchiveCDBooks.ca domain or the Malcolm@ArchiveCDBooks.ca address.  THANK YOU!
