Romanç De Santa Llucia

CD 2, Track 2

Music: Eduardo Toldrá
Text: José de Sagarra

Perque avui es Santa Llucia,

dia de 1'any gloriós,

pels vols de la plaça Nova

rondava amb la meva amor.

Anem tots dos a la fira,

amiga, anem-hi de jorn,

que una mica de muntanya

alegri nostra tristor.

Comprarem grapats de molça

i una enramada d'arbor

i una molinera

i una ovella i un pastor.

Ho posarem a mig dia

dins al nostre menjador

i abans de seure a la taula

ens ho mirarem tots dos;

que una mica de muntanya

ene faci'l menjar mes dolç.

Perque avui es Santa Llucia,

dia de 1'any gloriós,

tals paraules m'acudien

quan he vist la meva amor.

The Ballad of St. Lucy

For since today's St. Lucy's feast,

the glory of the year,

around the Plaza Nueva

I walked beside my love.

"The two of us, let's to the fair.

Friend, let us go by day,

for a little bit of mountain

will lighten our grief.

We'll buy handfuls of moss,

a branch of evergreen,

a pretty miller-girl*,

a lamb and shepherd boy.

We'll put them after noon

within our dining room,

and before we sit at table

we'll see ourselves in them,

for a little bit of mountain

sweetens the taste of food."

For since today's St. Lucy's feast,

the glory of the year,

such words occurred to me

when I did see my love.
