LENA Release Notes
Version 3.5.0 - January, 27, 2017
-
New Recorder Support:
Support for generation 4 LENA audio recorders.
Version 3.4.0 - October 8, 2015
-
New assignment confirmation:
Added message to confirm child assignment for new recording upload before automatic transfer begins. There is no additional assignment confirmation of DataLink import to Pro for files already assigned and confirmed in Collector.
-
Clock time verification messaging:
Suppressed clock time warning message until all attempts exhausted. If both pre-transfer attempts to read the recorder time fail, suppress but log the warning message "Unable to verify DLP clock time. Unplug the DLP, then click OK and reconnect DLP to try again." If post-purge attempt to read recorder clock time fails, display warning message "Unable to get clock time from DLP."
-
Recorder clock time adjustment:
Deferred recorder clock time adjustment until after data transfer and purge. If recorder contains data, do not adjust recorder clock time before recording transfer; instead, adjust after the recorder has been purged. If recorder contains no data, adjust clock time as needed.
-
ClientID column fix: Corrected logic to eliminate false error message "Unable to add ClientID column to Child table."
Version 3.4.0 - May 4, 2015

-
Fix for LENA Pro File Purge Default: Fixed an inconsistency in the audio file retention: The default setting is “No Limit”, but if the user had never manually selected “No Limit” the purge dialog was still being triggered by a “Quantity” default.
Version 3.3.1 - September 30, 2011
-
Changed LENA Pro File Purge Default: Purging of older recording data files is now turned off by default, where previously the initial setting would remove older audio recording files to minimize issues related to subject privacy and disk usage.

-
Audio Environment - TV filter: selectable filter to only show TV & Electronic sounds in Audio Environment. Shown as pattern of time rather than bars in hourly view.

-
EMail: Feature removed.
-
Exports - “Save to Desktop”: all export dialogs now allow you to easily select “desktop” for saving files.
-
Exports - CSV: changed “Element to Excel” to “CSV”. Cleaned up date selector behavior. Added DLP # and filename to CSV file data. Put quotes around user-editable fields Firstname, Lastname, Filename, ID in CSV file, removed spaces following comma-separator ", value,".
-
Exports - CSV: CSV file won't contain "*", "", "-". So AVA scores 135 = 135.1.
-
Exports - CSV: Monthly reports - to stay consistent with day boundaries breaking at midnight, monthly exports won't show files less than 10 hrs, including the portion of a file over midnight if it's less than 10 hrs. Daily CSV export will show files crossing midnight on 2 lines rather than summing the duration on one line.
-
Exports - CSV: Monthly CSV exports won't contain AVA_StdScore or Pct but instead will contain an AVA_AvgScore which is a monthly average of the daily AVA_StdScore for the time period.
-
Install location for Data Storage is selectable: can select drive and location to store data. Available option during install only.

-
Report List DLP # and Filename: added columns for this info in Report List. Aids in identifying files and DLP # that was used for a recording.

-
Settings “Reset DLP” button: for cases where the DLP needs to be reset from the software for any reason.
-
Settings: Removed setting for “Automatically start LENA when DLP is plugged into the PC” because of issues with LENA Service not always shutting down properly. Now Service will shut down when application shuts down.
-
Time Zone: adjustment for processing files recorded at different time zone than processing location to display correctly in Reports. Will be prompted on DLP connect (with option to turn this off in Settings) and also ability to “Change Time Zone” from Report List by right-clicking on recording day.
Version 3.1.6 - September 28, 2010
-
Copyright and License: Updated copyright owner and software license.
Version 3.1.5 - January 26, 2010

Version 3.1.4 - December 30, 2009
-
Windows 64-bit Operating System support: Added an updated driver for the DLP to support 64-bit Windows releases.
You must install the 64-bit drivers from the LENA CD to run on a 64-bit Windows system. This can be done by right clicking on the LENA CD drive letter in Windows Explorer and selecting “Install 64-bit DLP driver” or by starting the installer located on the CD at \support\setup\DLP\driver\V5.3\CP210xVCPInstaller.exe.
Version 3.1.3 - September 24, 2009
-
AVA: Due to issues with use of the AVA (Automatic Vocalization Assessment) for children outside of the typically developing group, AVA DevAge (Developmental Age) and EMLU (Estimated Mean Length of Utterance) were removed from the Report List and rollover data in the Daily Conversational Turns Report.
The AVA Standard Score was developed based on samples of typically developing children and children diagnosed with a variety of language delays/disabilities. Note that AVA is continually under development, and it has not been validated for specific diagnostic groups such as children with ASD or with hearing loss/deafness.
Version 3.1.2 - January 28, 2009
-
Signal Level: We have identified an issue in v3.1.1 in how the Signal Level dB values in the ITS file were being calculated for the input signal. V3.1.2 software resolves this issue and only customers using the Signal Level feature with ADEX or directly from the ITS file will be affected. Any files processed using v3.1.1 for the ITS file export will be inaccurate for the dB levels only. No other counts or values are affected in reports or processing results.
Version 3.1.1 - October 2, 2008
-
Signal Level: You can now find the average and peak energy levels for each Vocalization Activity Block or the total energy from a very short segment up to the energy for the entire file.
Note: To take advantage of this new Signal Level Feature in ADEX, you must also download and install LENA v3.1.1. Only recordings processed with LENA v3.1.1 will contain the Signal Level information.
Version 3.1.0 - August 7, 2008
-
LENA DataLink: This new tool allows your clients and participants who are using the LENA System to share their data with you.
-
AVA scores using bi-phones: Detects a sequence of two phones (as opposed to monophones) to improve accuracy of predicted Standard Score in a child's language abilities.
-
Export LDT file (LENA Developmental Table): For use with the ADEX Tool to view the Developmental Snapshot data in an easy-to-read spreadsheet format.
Version 3.0.0 - April 30, 2008
-
AVA scores using monophones: Detects monophones to predict Standard Score in a child's language abilities.
-
Ability to listen to audio in 5-minute resolution
-
Export data to Excel, Transcriber, CLAN, ITS
Known Issues:
-
The LENA Digital Language Processor is not detected after being connected to the PC
Some third-party packages can interfere with the proper loading of the LENA
Digital Language Processor drivers. This includes, but is not limited to, digital camera
software. Uninstallation of a conflicting package has been observed to
permit the proper detection and driver configuration for the LENA Digital Language Processor.
A different problem not related to driver setup can also exist. In some
cases Windows will quit recognizing USB devices, including the LENA
Digital Language Processor and even standard flash thumbdrives. Restarting Windows is usually
required to recover normal USB device operation. Occasionally Windows
will display an alert balloon on the task bar that indicates a USB problem
and, if possible, the LENA software will recover without user intervention.
-
Network firewall alerts
When LENA attempts to check for updates or is configured to contribute your
processing results, it will attempt to access the internet. If you have a
firewall either in software or in your network hardware, it may block the
attempt and require that you permit the requested network access to perform
the operation.
-
Fast User Switching "hides" the LENA program window
Windows Fast User Switching can leave LENA running in a logged on
session that is not visible on your computer display. If a DLP is
connected with the automatic startup of LENA disabled, there will be
no visible indication that LENA is detecting the DLP in the other
logged on session.
You will need to switch to the session already runing LENA to respond
to any questions and view the processing status.
-
Restart LENA after changing Windows Theme
Some parts of the LENA program screens may become invisible if the
Windows display settings for Themes are changed while the program is
open. Exiting and restarting LENA will correct the color settings.
